القوة
FORCE

\(W=F_g=m.g\)
\(N=Kg.\frac{m}{S^2}\)

\[\sum \vec F_{net}=\vec F_1+\vec F_2+\vec F_3+......\vec F_n\]
\[\sum \vec F_{X}=\vec F_{1X}+\vec F_{2X}+\vec F_{3X}+......\vec F_{nX}\]
\[\sum \vec F_{Y}=\vec F_{1Y}+\vec F_{2Y}+\vec F_{3Y}+......\vec F_{nY}\]
\[\sum \vec F_{Z}=\vec F_{1Z}+\vec F_{2Z}+\vec F_{3Z}+......\vec F_{nZ}\]

\(F_{1X}=F_1.\cos(30)=20\times\cos(30)=17.3 N\)
\(F_{1Y}=F_1.\sin(30)=20\times\sin(30)=10 N\)

\[\sum F_X=F_1.\cos(30)-F_3=17.3-3=14.3 N\]

\[\sum F = 0 \Rightarrow a = 0\]

\[F=m.a\]

\[F = m \times a\]

\[\sum F_X = m \cdot a\]

\[F_{gX} = m \cdot a\]

\[m \cdot g \cdot \sin(\theta) = m \cdot a\]

\[a = g \cdot \sin(\theta) = 9.81 \times \sin(30^\circ) = 4.9 \, m/s^2\]

\[\mu_S = \frac{F_S}{F_n}\]

\[\mu_k = \frac{F_k}{F_n}\]

Force
An external influence that acts on a body, working to change the body's shape or its state of motion

Forces in nature are divided into two types

Contact Forces

Some forces cannot occur without contact with the body

Field Forces

Some forces do not require contact with the body to occur

Comparison between Contact Forces and Field Forces

PropertyContact ForcesField Forces
DefinitionRequire direct contactAct at a distance
ExamplesFriction, Tension, NormalGravity, Magnetic, Electric
UsesCar brakes, WalkingPlanetary motion, Motors
Mass and Weight
Mass: The amount of matter in a body
Weight: The force applied to the body by gravity
Mass does not change with location, but weight changes according to the gravitational field

\(W=F_g=m.g\)
\(N=Kg.\frac{m}{S^2}\)

Comparison between Mass and Weight

PropertyMassWeight
ConceptAmount of matterForce of gravity

UnitKilogram (kg)Newton (N)
UseMeasuring inertiaMeasuring force

Important Notes:

  • ✅ Mass is a constant property unaffected by geographic location
  • 🔄 Weight changes with changes in gravitational force
  • ⚖️ Relationship: Weight = Mass × Acceleration due to gravity \(F_g = m \times g\)
Mass and Weight on the Surface of This World
In this simulation, observe the effect of weight changing with location, but mass remains constant
When you hang an object on a spring, there is a tension force equal to the weight of the object
Click on the planet first
(Reset) then click on then on the upward arrow
Net Force
It is the sum of the forces acting on the body
\[\sum \vec F_{net}=\vec F_1+\vec F_2+\vec F_3+......\vec F_n\]
It is better to take the net force on the Cartesian axes for ease
\[\sum \vec F_{X}=\vec F_{1X}+\vec F_{2X}+\vec F_{3X}+......\vec F_{nX}\]
\[\sum \vec F_{Y}=\vec F_{1Y}+\vec F_{2Y}+\vec F_{3Y}+......\vec F_{nY}\]
\[\sum \vec F_{Z}=\vec F_{1Z}+\vec F_{2Z}+\vec F_{3Z}+......\vec F_{nZ}\]
Solved Example
From the figure, determine the net force on the X-axis

We determine the forces acting on the body
We draw coordinate axes X.Y provided the horizontal axis is parallel to the plane on which the body moves
We analyze the forces that are not aligned with the coordinate axes
\(F_{1X}=F_1.\cos(30)=20\times\cos(30)=17.3 N\)
\(F_{1Y}=F_1.\sin(30)=20\times\sin(30)=10 N\)

\[\sum F_X=F_1.\cos(30)-F_3=17.3-3=14.3 N\]

Normal Force

Scientific Concept:

The Normal Force is the component of force perpendicular to the contact surface between two bodies, arising as a reaction to the pressure forces exerted by one body on another.

Cases of Appearance:

  • ✅ When a stationary object is placed on a horizontal surface (like a book on a table)
  • ✅ In motion on inclined surfaces (like force analysis on a slope)
  • ✅ During collisions between bodies
  • ✅ In rotational systems as a centripetal force

Properties:

- Direction: Always perpendicular to the contact surface
- Magnitude: Changes according to the acting force (\(F_N = mg \cos\theta\) on inclined surfaces)
- Nature: Reaction force (not a fundamental force)

Newton's Laws and Applications

Newton's First Law: Inertia

A body at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by an external force that moves it. A body moving in a straight line remains so forever unless acted upon by an external force that changes its direction of motion.

Scientific Text of the Law:

"A body at rest remains at rest, and a body moving at constant speed in a straight line remains in its state unless acted upon by an external force that changes its state of motion"

Mathematical Formula:

\[\sum F = 0 \Rightarrow a = 0\]

Practical Applications:

  • Sudden braking: Passengers continue moving forward
  • Sliding hockey puck: Moves longer distance due to low friction
  • Pushing a heavy object: Requires more force to overcome inertia

In this simulation, observe the student on the bus when the bus stops and starts moving again

Example 1) Traffic management advises the driver and passengers of the car to wear seat belts while the car is moving. Explain the reason.

Newton's Second Law

Newton's Second Law states that "the net force acting on a body produces an acceleration that is directly proportional to it while inversely proportional to the mass of the body."

\[F=m.a\]

Newton's Second Law of Motion

Mathematical Formula:

Force = Mass × Acceleration

\[F = m \times a\]

Scientific Explanation:

The law describes the relationship between the force acting on a body, its mass, and its acceleration. The greater the force, the greater the acceleration, provided the mass is constant.

Practical Applications:

  • Car acceleration: Pressing the accelerator increases the driving force
  • Rocket launch: A massive rocket requires a huge thrust force
  • Hydraulic brakes: Applying a reverse braking force

In this simulation, the first stage will study the relationship between acceleration and force (with constant mass)

Relationship between acceleration and force (with constant mass) consider \(g = 10 \frac{m}{s^2}\)

The plane must be smooth (frictionless)

In the second stage, we will study the relationship between acceleration and mass (with constant force)

Draw the graph between acceleration and reciprocal of mass

Newton's Third Law

Newton's Third Law of Motion

Scientific Text of the Law:

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction"

\(F_{1\to2} = -F_{2\to1}\)

Mathematical Explanation:

  • \(F_{1\to2}\): The force exerted by the first body on the second body
  • \(F_{2\to1}\): The force exerted by the second body on the first body
  • The negative sign: Indicates opposite direction

Practical Applications:

  • Rocket launch: Gases downward (action) → Rocket upward (reaction)
  • Walking on the ground: Foot backward (action) → Ground forward (reaction)
  • Car motion: Tires backward (action) → Road forward (reaction)

Example 2) "All cars are moving to the right. Which ones are accelerating? Which ones are slowing down? Which ones are moving at constant speed?"

Applications of Newton's Laws
Motion of a body on a horizontal plane

Applications of Newton's Laws

Solved Example - Inclined Plane
A smooth inclined plane inclined to the horizontal at an angle of \(\theta=30^\circ\)
A body placed at the top of the inclined plane, calculate the acceleration with which the body moves
We follow the following steps
(1) We determine the forces acting on the body
(2) We draw coordinate axes provided the horizontal axis is parallel to the surface on which the body moves
(3) We analyze the forces not aligned with the coordinate axes

We apply Newton's Second Law on the horizontal axis where the acceleration exists on the horizontal axis

\[\sum F_X = m \cdot a\]

\[F_{gX} = m \cdot a\]

\[m \cdot g \cdot \sin(\theta) = m \cdot a\]

\[a = g \cdot \sin(\theta) = 9.81 \times \sin(30^\circ) = 4.9 \, m/s^2\]

Ropes and Pulleys
The rope and pulley system is a mechanical tool used to transfer force and change the direction of the load
We will consider the mass of the pulley and the mass of the rope negligible
The physical system moves with the same acceleration because the rope does not stretch and the tension force is equal on both ends of the rope
When studying the system, we determine the direction of motion and determine the forces acting on each body
We apply Newton's Second Law to each body and perform the addition of equations until we obtain the acceleration of the system

Movable Pulley
If the center of the movable pulley carries the weight, then the tension force of the two vertical ropes contributes to lifting the body and divides the weight between the two tension forces.
The more lifting ropes, the less force needed to lift the body.
Note that the distance moved by the rope on which we exert a tension force is twice the distance moved by the body.
Friction Force
The friction force is the resistance of a body to motion; where this body moves on the surface of another body.
The friction force is not considered a fundamental force like gravity or electromagnetic force.

Its direction is always opposite to the motion of the body and parallel to the surface on which the body moves
There are two types of friction force
Static friction: Appears when we exert a tension force on the body and the body is stationary
Kinetic friction: Appears when we exert a tension force on the body and the body is moving
In this simulation, exert a horizontal tension force and observe what happens when the nature of the two contacting surfaces changes.
Do static and kinetic friction forces remain the same?

Example 1) "From the previous experiments, what are the factors that change the friction force?"

Example 2) "Determine the forces acting on the following bodies"

Coefficient of static friction: The ratio of the static friction force to the normal force

\[\mu_S = \frac{F_S}{F_n}\]

Coefficient of kinetic friction: The ratio of the kinetic friction force to the normal force

\[\mu_k = \frac{F_k}{F_n}\]

In this simulation, we will exert a horizontal or inclined tension force on a body placed on a rough horizontal plane and determine the value of the static and kinetic friction coefficients.
Consider the value \(g=9.75 \frac{m}{s^2}\)
